MAINA WANJIGI SECONDARY SCHOOL
FROM THE SENIOR TEACHER’S DESK,
MRS. BARASA
The core business of Maina Wanjigi Secondary School is Academics. The concern of the Senior Teacher’s office in Maina Wanjigi Secondary School is to ensure quality education is offered to all students under the 8.4.4. System of education.
This department is central to Maina Wanjigi Secondary School as it coordinates and monitors curriculum implementation in all the academic departments in the school, i.e. Languages, Mathematics, Humanities, Sciences and Creative art. This is achieved by ensuring the recommended current external syllabus is administered within the stipulated school time table and that records are done and kept.
This office ensures that evaluation of students is done and records of academic progress are kept by individual teachers and the school.
The overall success of the school relies on unity of purpose within members in all the departments, This in Maina Wanjigi Secondary, is achieved through the guidance provided by the school:
1. Vision – To produce mature students well balanced emotionally, spiritually and well trained to fit in society.
2. Mission – To prepare students for higher learning and challenges in life at large.
FROM THE DEAN OF STUDIES,
MRS. MUISYO
The school offers the 8.4.4 Curriculum of Education with 15 examinable subjects. These include English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, History, Geography, I.R.E, C.R.E, Agriculture, Home Science, Business, Computer and Arabic.
Three exams are taken in one term i.e- Entry (Opening exam)-20%, Mid- term exam- 20% and End of term exam- 60%.
The exams are done very early in the morning from 7.00a.m. – 8.00a.m. which has greatly improved school attendance. Many who would miss exams are now able to do. The exam exercise is spread throughout the term.
The exam office is working in close partnership with the students’ Academic Committee led by Sadik- Form 3E to turn tables round and raise the school mean score to grade C- or above.
The exam office is also in-charge of making the block timetable, exam timetables and has always worked as a team to see that no time is wasted during the term.
We experience some challenges during exam time because of our catchment area. Students keep on travelling to the refugee camps in (what was formerly) North Eastern Province hence missing exams.
We hope that once the school is fully boarding, we shall be able to improve our results significantly because all our students will always be in.
